Kauai Seashores – My Prime Picks For Romance, Households and Snorkeling
Along with the Na Pali, of all the wonderful issues to do on Kauai, going to the seashores is my favorite activity, as it is for many Kauai visitors. And for good cause! Because Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands, the shoreline consists principally of soppy, white and golden sand beaches.
Things you can do and see at the Kauai’s infinite lei of beaches: snorkel, dive, surf, swim, relax, view romantic sunsets – and two things you’ll be able to hardly ever do on the other islands’ beaches – find shells and see endangered Hawaiian monk seals.
All of Kauai seashores, as throughout the state of Hawaii, are free and open to the public. It would not make any distinction if the seashore is fronting a rustic street, a multimillion dollar residence or a luxury resort. Wherever a property blocks access to a seaside, you will discover a designated path leading to the seashore within just a few toes of that property.
Kauai has too many superior beaches to checklist right here, however here are my three top picks: some of the romantic, probably the greatest for snorkeling and some of the household-friendly Kauai beaches.
Lumahai Beach – This isn’t a swimming beach, but it’s splendidly romantic. Lumahai was the “nurses seaside” within the film version of the musical classic, South Pacific. And the hauntingly stunning “Bali Hai” seen in the movie is performed by the majestic Mt. Makana of the Na Pali State Park viewed from this North Shore beach. The golden beach and rocky ocean listed below are beautiful. It is positive to sunbathe and wade within the shallows, but do not swim. The currents are as treacherous as the beach is lovely.
Anini Seashore Park – This is a very pretty, long stretch of white sand with a coral reef protected lagoon excellent for snorkeling. Even though Anini is on Kauai’s North Shore, the water is sort of all the time calm and clear right here, and it is a great spot for beginning snorkelers who wish to view colorful coral and plenty of tropical fish.
Poipu Beach – The crescent formed beach that fronts the Sheraton and the Kiahuna Resort could be very common with families and a Dr. Seaside pick. I spent a lot of time here with my eldest son when he was young. The reef protected surf is small and delicate, making it fun for youngsters (and for those learning to surf). Because Poipu is on the island’s South Shore, it is perpetually sunny too, and the sunsets reflecting on the golden sands are magical!
